Theory Test

Theory test information

In 1996 a Theory test was implemented by the D.S.A for car drivers and motorcyclists. By studying and taking the test new drivers will hopefully improve their attitude towards safety when on the roads.
The theory test is taken on touch screen computers in towns and cities all over the country. You are asked 35 questions and need to score 30 or above to pass. There are approximately 950 questions in all, only 35 are randomly taken which cover several areas of driving knowledge. It is very important to study for this test, not only for a pass certificate but to improve you knowledge of road safety.

The areas on which you will be assessed and therefore need to study are as follows:

  • Drivers Attitude
  • Traffic signs and regulations
  • Effects of alcohol, drugs and fatigue on driver behavior
  • Safety and environmental aspects of vehicles

Booking a theory test
Before booking your theory test it is advisable to prepare beforehand as many people who take their theory test with little or no studying fail. There are questions which, if you have never read about them, you would never know the answer. Once you have passed your Theory test you will feel near to that goal of possessing a full driving licence.

By post
If you would like to book your test by post you can get a test application form from your driving instructor or from your nearest Driving Test Centre.
